Wan ker | FANTASTIC SERVICE ! About a month ago the coffee grinder in our Gaggia Platinum Swing espresso machine ceased operating. A message came up on the screen which said Out Of Service. I looked that up in the trouble shooting guide of our Gaggia manual and it indicated a problem with the coffee grinder. We bought the machine from a company in Rochester, NY close to 8 years ago for about 1000. The Gaggia has been pretty good nearly all that time and nothing serious like this had happened before. We were still able to make espresso shots for our morning lattes via the pre-ground coffee shute. I hopped online and watched a video how to dismantle the machine and clean the coffee grinder. Now you are probably saying why bother with all that tedious work ? My wife and I totally enjoy our early morning lattes we make at home and to take the espresso machine to a repair center such as Express Fix Coffee our first & only choice would mean being without our machine...and our home made lattes for up to a month. And we do not have a coffee shop near home which makes lattes as good as we want. So after watching the video we went shopping for a T10 Star Driver...most of the screws on the machine are of this type. I bought one for 6.49 at AutoZone. I dismantled our espresso machine as per the online video and meticulously cleaned the coffee grinder which is attached to the electric motor which drives it. Everything looked in very good condition when I reassembled the machine. Fingers crossed and I turned it on....same message on screen....Out Of Service ! Very frustrating indeed. I contacted the company in NY we bought it from and a service tech guy said it is probably the chip sensor. So I ripped the machine apart again to find this small part which as it turned out is attached to the electric motor. I examined the chip and it looked ok. However I decided to replace it with a new one after finding out it would only cost about 16. My 2nd hunch was the electric motor but that was a much more expensive option. I could have bought a chip sensor on Ebay from an espresso machine parts specialist dude in Bulgaria who I have dealt with before but it was going to take 2 weeks to ship the part to me. I gave Dave Martin at Express Fix Coffee a call and he could get me one in within a couple of days at the same price. I drove the 30 + miles to La Mesa to collect the new chip sensor. The next day I dismantled the machine again and installed the new chip. Here's hoping.....Out Of Service ! Man I was getting pretty frustrated but then I recalled that Dave told me he had a brand new motor in stock for 80. I really didn't want to make that long drive again while still suffering from the flu so I paid Dave with my credit card over the phone and he shipped the electric motor to me a few days later via USPS. This would be my last attempt to fix the machine otherwise we would buy a new model. I finished installing the new electric motor just after my wife came home from work. I loaded some fresh coffee beans into the bean hopper...I was very confident and turned on the machine.....yeah baby the coffee grinder started whirring and out came a lovely espresso shot. I nearly did a backflip I was so happy. We love our delicious home made morning lattes. Thanks to Dave Martin owner of Express Fix Coffee and my determination it all worked out perfect ! |
Zed Star | After chatting with David on the phone yesterday I decided he was the person to repair our Gaggia espresso machine which developed a problem a few days ago.I dropped the machine off today and had a chance to meet David in person.I have total confidence our machine will be back in tiptop working order within a couple of weeks.David and his assistant Jose impressed me greatly with their passion and commitment to do a great job...........So after dropping our Gaggia Platinum Vision off at Express Fix on Oct 26 to be fixed there were a couple of delays and we didn't pick our espresso machine up until Dec 6th.David informed us there was a blockage in the steam/water wand as we suspected and he assured us the machine was now functioning properly again. The bill was 149 which we were happy to pay when the only other option was to ship it to Gaggia in Rochester,New York.We have been using the machine to make our morning cappuccinos for a few days now and everything is working fine.I think it's fantastic that there is someone such as Dave and his assistant Jose repairing commercial and domestic espresso machines right here in San Diego.Dave offers a 30 day warranty on his repairs and we would certainly trust him again to repair any machine we own in the future. The guy is an honest straight shooter! |
