John Smith | I stopped in to check out the echo trimmers because the website listed the "2018" models with a price and "2017" models listed as "get price" meaning to contact them with your information. A lot of stores do this because they're listing an item for below MSRP, but with it being an older model most places will discount that to clear out their stock. Leading me to -assume- they were listed lower than the 2018 models. Which would make sense because it is 2019, and the 2017 models were new old stock, not being sold for all, or part of 2017 and all of 2018. I purposely contacted echo directly prior to visiting the store to see if there was any changes made to the models between the 2017-2018 year, this way the salesperson wouldn't try to convince me otherwise. Why would these trimmers be listed by the year anyway? The echo customer service representative explicitly told me that the 2017 model had a solid drive shaft, where the newer model uses a 4-cable flex shaft. Not to mention the decals are slightly different. Not that stickers would make a performance difference, but it is an update. And when a newer edition is available, who wants the old generation for the same price as the new generation. Especially when there has been a mechanical change. The employee went to the computer to check what I was talking about on their website. I find it strange that they have the SRM 2620 2018 listed for 329.99 and the 2017 listed as "get price"... But yet in store they are on the same rack slot, for the same price. Not to mention the I assume to be "salesman" tried to tell me there was no difference between a solid drive shaft and a flex shaft... Regardless as to whether echo did make a change I'm more confident believing the echo company and the salesman was or wasn't aware of this, why lie and say there isn't a difference between the two drive shafts in general? They can list these trimmers online between 17' and 18' model years, but sell them for the same price? I understand they aren't cars, but there are physical changes amongst the models. I gave it 2 stars because the store had a nice selection, and was very modern, but that's it. This guy seemed to have no clue, while another guy stood idly by following him around. |
