CALL SOMEONE ELSE! My mother, who's only source of income is social security, called him to try to fix a very old leaking bathtub faucet. After 3 attempts and trying to find parts he told her he would have to tear into the tile wall and update all the tub & shower fixtures to new stuff. At this point she had already paid him about 400 total for the attempts to fix it - which she was okay with because she knew everything was very old and she understood that there were no guarantees he could fix it. The problem was with what came next. He gave her a rough estimate of 1500 to 1800. Said he wouldn't know for sure until he "got into it". It took him a whole week, he billed her for himself and a helper, and her bill was almost 3900. The only thing the helper did was sit on a bucket and watch and once in a while go get a tool from the truck.
