We are trying to get some work done and getting estimates from different people. This guy said it wasn't worth his time just to do an estimate. Will someone tell this jag off that people aren't just going to hire him sight unseen? Idiot

We have used Hartwell Handyman since we moved to the area 6 years ago. Billy & team does our gutters every quarter without fail, he does our annual chimney clean and has saved us from fire risk twice by finding rusted chimney piping. He has put in new toilets and fixed broken garbage disposals and CFI switches and lighting. Billy and team can enter my home without me here and I don't have to worry. Trustworthy and dependable he always is. Always great work.

On September 12th my tenant called saying there was barely any water emerging from all of the faucets in the property. I phoned Billy of Hartwell Handy Services to inspect the problem. He left me a voice message saying although no one was home he checked the water meter, which wasn't turning, meaning there wasn't a busted pipe at the property. In his opinion the pressure reducing valve located somewhere under the house needed replacing. On September 26th he supposedly returned to fix the problem. According to him and the invoice I received, he checked the water pressure and cleaned the aerators. His exact words were “the water pressure has a psi of 90 which is good and it means there aren't any pipes leaking otherwise the pressure would be much lower.” After researching his findings, a psi of 90 is not good. To validate his words I asked him to notate on the invoice the psi of 90, of course he did not. Fast forward to October 4th I get another call from my tenant who is very frustrated. He says "the plumber you sent out here didn't do anything, there still isn't water coming from the faucets and the water bill has been extremely high for months". My tenant complained to the water company and they advised him to check if the meter still turned after all the faucets were off, if so there is a leak or busted pipe. Following the instructions from the water company he witnessed the water meter indeed had movement with all faucets being turned off. Again we phoned Billy, in turn, he was adamant that there wasn't a leak, the psi was 90 and the meter did not turn when he checked it. Reluctantly, he agreed to go to the property a third time to inspect the problem. Lo and behold! There it was, a busted pipe found under the property after he, the plumber, denied the possibility of it being one. Failure to get it right the first time resulted in a waste of my money for two separate bills and time. Opportunity presented itself for him to own his mistakes instead he made excuses and pretended it wasn't his fault. Integrity is important when choosing someone to work on your home. There may be a time you aren't there or you are and need to step out. Trusting them to do the right work when someone isn't watching is immeasurable.
