Consumer Reviews | I have been a consumers' advocate for 40 years. I also ran a business for two decades and have a degree in Business. As a rule, I am sympathetic to small business because I have been there, but my first priority for reviews is honesty and accuracy. As for RVs, I have owned many since 1977. I believe in good maintenance because it is the best way to prevent break-downs out on the road, and as a consequence I have had work done at many RV service centers. At Service Masters in Reedsport, Oregon, however, it was very bad. To start, I purchased a used travel trailer from a private party in Florence, Oregon, and had an RV professional in that town look it over and call it good before purchase. But I was heading out on the road so I wanted a closer look done, and RV Masters was the place that had time available on short notice. I had several service goals in mind, namely to do a new reseal of all exterior seams, as my 23' trailer had the original factory sealant and it was long overdue for new. Keeping the water out of an RV is the first order of business. I also wanted them to add a Fantastic fan for the bathroom, a new kitchen facet and hatch covers. I also asked the tech to go over the trailer to see if there might be any other maintenance issues. I expected RV Masters would do as other auto and RV business should do and give the customer a call regarding the results of a check-up, so the customer could decide what he or she wanted done and could afford to do. In the case of RV Masters, this was certainly not done. Click on my Consumer Reviews title and go to my list of reviews. There you will find some of my photos for this job attached to my RV Masters review, including one that shows their receipt filled side to side and top to bottom with parts and labor charges amounting to a grossly unjustified 2,557.44, most of which went for work that the tech did not get authorization from me to do. Even at that, the most important job, the sealant, didn't get done, and that cost hundreds of dollars more for a total that came to almost 3,000. Anyway, I had sold my house and was anxious to get on the road, but no way did I did I give this business anything like a blank check to do just anything they thought needed doing; and there was absolutely no estimate given to me in advance in any case. The signature you see on their receipt was made when the lady, the boss of the business, pushed the receipt across the counter after the work was done and impatiently insisted I sign it. I assumed they would not release the trailer, so I reluctantly signed. Not only did I not authorize so much of the work, too much of it was poorly done. For example, see the two photos that were typical of their sealant job, half of which I had to redo. Tell me, would you pay hundreds of your dollars for this kind of work? Next, see the two Camco hatch covers. He put the smaller size on both my hatches, including the one over the Fantastic Fan. But that one was too small and thus prevented the hatch cover from opening more than half way, consequently greatly impeding the flow of air from the fan. The hatch cover you see marked XLT, which is the model Camco intended for a Fantastic fan, I had to buy and install myself. RV Masters also installed a new water pump for 114, plus labor, but it was a bad pump and had to be replaced right afterward while I was on the road, by Peninsula RV. See their receipt for 90, which was quite a bit less. RV Masters replaced the kitchen facet with one off their shelf for 95 plus labor. They didn't ask me before installing it whether I wanted that model or some other. Well, it failed only a year later, so at Peninsula RV, as any service dealer should do, they asked me which new type of facet I wanted. They gave me choices and recommended one that cost half the price see receipt for 55. And the list goes on: RV Masters replaced the pressure relief value on the water heater, even though there was no indication it was bad. They replaced the LPG hoses even though there was no indication they were bad. |
Clare Dollar | After bringing in all the information needed for an R.V/ A.C part, the woman behind the desk ordered the wrong one and then had the nerve to charge us a restocking fee of 25 to order the correct one. Who charges a customer for THEIR mistake? Only RV Masters of Reedsport !! |
